Mama's Day Off

In preparation of Raspberry coming (which could be anytime after next week), Josiah went to spend the night at Grandma's where he will be staying while we're in the hospital.  He's stayed overnight there before but always with us.  He spends every Wednesday there and even naps in his pack 'n play when Grandma will let him.  My mom took him after church and Danny and I headed straight home--no Fred Meyer shopping for us!  I had a list to accomplish!

Danny's list included a nap, some video games and tinkering with a friend's broken washer.  My list included unpacking gender neutral newborn clothes, getting the nursery entirely finished, planning menus for the next few months, starting a knitting project, organizing picture frames so that I might actually get them hung on the walls and out of our bedroom, and working on finishing up Josiah's room.  Throw in a date night to see the Hobbit 2 at McMenamins and now you know why a nap wasn't on my agenda--not that I wouldn't have liked one.

I got tons done.  The date night was fantastic, especially since I don't usually like to watch movies in theaters.  When you get to sit on a love seat though instead of uncomfy theater chairs, and you make it in time for happy hour specials, it just changes the whole experience.  Plus, my niece had previously introduced me to their Cajun tots, and while I'm not normally a tater tot type of girl, let's just say that I may only order those next time!

Even without a babysitter to rush home to and relieve our fourth date post babies was over by 9:00 since we were both yawning and Danny had to work the next morning.  In our defense, we were the last ones to leave the theater and we did try to warm up by a fire for a little bit before heading home.  :P

I fell asleep almost immediately, and then since I'm in the stage of pregnancy where I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get comfortable, I went to sleep on the couch somewhere around 4:00 a.m.  However, I had turned off my alarm and slept in until 7:30!!!

So here's what I learned that moms do (or can do) when they get some time off:

1) leave all the bathroom doors open because there is no one there to play in the toilet
2) close the bathroom door when actually going to the bathroom
3) eat an entire meal by themselves
4) order a meal at a restaurant without worrying about whether it is appropriate for a toddler
5) drink a cup of hot coffee without rewarming it and while reading a magazine
6) keep toys put away
7) vacuum the whole house in one swoop because toys are put away
8) wash all sippy cups at the same time
9) eat a yummy snack without having to try and hide it from a toddler
10) take a shower whenever they want

I may just take another day off sometime.  Maybe that way I can schedule my nap!
